Diary Entry

17 November 1942 Island staff and supply establishment proposals

Corps reviews the new organisation and proposes adjustments for the islands’ special requirements. These include enlarged Jersey and Alderney island staffs incorporating supply duties; two administration companies, one on Guernsey and one on Jersey; a permanent joint armed-forces supply staff, partly naval, with branches at Saint-Malo, Granville, Cherbourg, Guernsey, Jersey and Alderney; additional administrative officials; retention of existing butcher, bakery and field-post establishments; changes to medical transport; and retention of island motor workshops and a reduced armourer section.

Corps repeats its request to retain heavy machine-gun equipment and light weapons either for all regiments or at least one reserve battalion per regiment. The numerical comparison shows proposed establishments, available personnel after ordered transfers and the effect of 454 replacements received in early November. The attached supply-staff outline provides eight officer/official posts and thirty-two NCO/other-rank posts jointly from army and navy. Because the main table is densely overprinted and poorly reproduced, all establishment alternatives and totals are preserved as source images rather than silently reconstructed.

Translation note: Dated 17 November although filed among October reorganisation papers.
