Enemy sea activity: on 9 September, at approximately 04:30 and 05:10 [times faint], two enemy motorboats with guns and depth charges were reported off Fort Quesnoy, Guernsey. Two motorboats were 20 km north of Cap de la Hague and one enemy submarine was engaged by a German boat; effects were not observed [wording partly faded]. During the night of 10–11 September, a German Guernsey–Granville convoy of two steamers and minesweepers was attacked at 02:05, 10 km northeast of Jersey, by four enemy motorboats. Enemy fire was ineffective. The convoy returned fire at 04:00: five shell hits, two slightly wounded; one enemy motorboat was also damaged by German escort fire.
Enemy air activity remained substantial, particularly in the western corps area. On 9 September at approximately 14:10 [time faint], Guernsey antiaircraft guns shot down an enemy four-engine aircraft at La Torteval [place indistinct]; it crashed in the sea 150 metres offshore. On 14 September at 07:04 ten enemy aircraft bombed Cherbourg and Tourlaville, 4 km east of Cherbourg. Buildings were damaged; houses burned. The enemy aircraft were engaged.
