16 July 1944 Part 1 Air reconnaissance over the islands and northern Brittany
Only slight enemy aerial reconnaissance was reported from the Channel Islands area during the day. During the night, larger formations crossed Brittany on a southerly course; supply flights for resistance fighters continued. Enemy aerial reconnaissance continued throughout the day, concentrated between Cap Fréhel and Morlaix, while naval reconnaissance was again confined to the sea area north of Lézardrieux–Morlaix.
Between 19:00 and 20:00, 100 twin-engined bombers with fighter escort flew in between Avranches and Saint-Malo, later dropping bombs on the town, harbour and railway installations of Nantes. From 23:00, about 30 enemy aircraft began flying in between Saint-Malo and Lannion to supply resistance fighters in Brittany.
No special events were reported from the XXV Army Corps area or the remainder of the Army area.
