With effect from 16 July 1942, Kapitän zur See Steinbach, with part of the former staff of Marko P.d.C. [Naval Commander Pas-de-Calais], assumed the duties of Commander of Sea Defence, Channel Islands. His area comprised Guernsey, Jersey, Alderney, Sark and the offshore smaller islands formerly under British sovereignty. Taking over the new command and rapidly making it ready for work were greatly facilitated by the availability of an experienced staff and subordinate staff. Signed Steinbach.
