Diary Entry
16 January 1943 Security Forces West review of the late-November St Malo diary
The St Malo Convoy Control Office diary for 16–30 November 1942 is submitted.
Regarding 19 November, 1830–2126, pages 9–10, and 3rd Security Division’s remarks: The firing on friendly harbour-protection boats by group T 23 resulted from insufficient care in ship reporting and in providing the boats with valid recognition means. The incident again demonstrates the importance of collecting all information about ship movements in coastal waters at one responsible office, and of ensuring that this office is informed of every movement. Because of this repeatedly stated requirement, the warship-reporting service was assigned to Commander Security West’s offices, the security divisions or Convoy Control Office.
Draft signed Ruge. For Commander Security West, Acting Chief of Staff [signature].
