Radio telegram FT 1639/41/47/16 to Naval High Command West (M-Offizier):
1. Inspection of the general condition of the engines, especially the light-metal foundations of S 112’s auxiliary machinery, shows that a major overhaul will shortly become necessary. It cannot be carried out with the dockyard resources available in the command area. A Channel breakthrough by S 112 in its present serviceable general condition and during the long nights up to the end of January is possible.
2. A decision on radio telegram FT 2023/29 is therefore urgently requested. — Naval Commandant, Channel Islands.
