Editorial note: Extract from the report dated 17 October 1943 on the Commander-in-Chief’s tour of 13–16 October (Roll 1558 scan 1068, Operations No. 5213/43 secret). Placed here under the inspection date. Imported from the supplied English translation; its uncertain readings are retained.
Army Coastal Battery 467, heavy mortars. Open circular gun emplacements with surrounding embankments and rotating platforms. Sheltered spaces for personnel and ammunition. Fire-control post and personnel accommodation developed as reinforced field fortifications. Three squad shelters built as permanent fortifications. Adequate all-round defence. Three forward observers with wire and radio communications; one mobile radio set. Connections from ranging stations and at connection points permit firing at any time without disrupting the fortress network, verified through fire-control exercises. Loading and traversing devices developed by the troops themselves were noteworthy.
