The report requested by Naval High Command West in radio message 1516/13 on possible torpedo employment by S 112 was submitted by radio message 0314: (1) because of the commanding officer’s inexperience, an attack was initially intended against lightly protected St Malo convoys near grid square B.F. 2683/86; later against Cherbourg convoys. (2) Complete torpedoes were urgently requested by air. Torpedo attacks following island visual reports promised success because of the short approach from Guernsey. If transport was difficult, delivery of boilers, tail assemblies and pistols was proposed, using the eight existing torpedo warheads. (3) The possibility of flying in small battle weapons was raised.
