Diary Entry

15 July 1944 Part 2 Weekly assessment of disruption to Channel Islands shipping

b. Naval situation

The enemy’s continuous supply traffic on the two known sea routes to the invasion front, from and to the Strait of Dover, was somewhat heavier. No reports were available about the resumption of use of Cherbourg harbour. Our Channel Islands shipping traffic was considerably disrupted by enemy destroyers, fast attack boats and gunboats, while the approach routes Brest–Morlaix–Lézardrieux and Lézardrieux–Guernsey were continuously patrolled by light cruisers and destroyers.

On the Atlantic coast, naval activity was slight; the usual minelaying by aircraft took place off the submarine ports.
