15 July 1943 Division reviews Sark mine clearance and radio protection

Editorial note: Retrospective review. The discussion of an unrelated mine incident off Brest has been omitted.

Third Security Division, secret G 4385 A II, 15 July 1943, to Commander Security West, copy flotilla. Diary and engineering section submitted.

Sark operations were discussed in the situation review for 1–15 June. The division considered the flotilla had mastered a difficult task: short nights, only four boats and magnetic mines on moorings. The bypass was only 1.3 nautical miles from the minefield and was considered too close, so a new one was ordered.

Assumption of delayed rising mines not confirmed; probably navigational inaccuracy from poor visibility, compare diary 9 June.

On 15 June 0614: comments on action report, which should have accompanied diary, attached as G 4191 of 29 June. New request in diary to armour radio room or at least switchboard supported. Additional instruction to flotilla: observe diary regulations; underline mine successes red, mark action contacts red in margin, attach action reports, state formation and gear for group bottom-mine checks.
