Diary Entry
15 February 1944 Proposed withdrawal of a headquarters from Guernsey
Editorial note: Relevant extract from a longer discussion of mainland command arrangements. The proposed withdrawal from Guernsey was rejected; this entry does not record a transfer.
Army headquarters therefore proposes the following solution and submits these requests: a) the provision of one battalion to garrison the Granville coastal-defence group; b) the employment of a regimental headquarters, withdrawn from Guernsey, in the Cap de Carteret sector, under LXXXIV Army Corps.
The operations officer of Army Group D replies to these requests: a) Commander in Chief West intends to provide a security battalion, currently being formed, for the Granville area by 15 March; b) withdrawal of a regimental headquarters from Guernsey is out of the question. Instead, Army High Command has ordered Regimental Headquarters for Special Employment 752 to act as the command staff in the Granville sector.
