Diary Entry
Continuation: S 112 mining operation, 14–15 November 1944
19:40
Radio message 1846 from the Minquiers strongpoint: from 10 to 13 November, continuous light- and heavy-machine-gun firing was heard nightly from 19:00 to 23:00. There was heavy flashing traffic by naval units towards Cap Fréhel; from St Malo to ten nautical miles north of Granville. The corvette’s station was as before but extended south of Chausey. S 112 carried the same cryptographic material as the Minquiers radio station and could therefore evaluate this report.
Enemy convoy traffic observed during the day — to Cherbourg: eight L.S.T.s; one freighter with one funnel and two masts; one auxiliary aircraft carrier; one destroyer of the J/K class. From Cherbourg: one special-purpose vessel with cranes; one auxiliary aircraft carrier; one Liberty ship; one freighter about the size of an L.S.I.; one E-boat. From St Malo: one vessel, type not identifiable.
