12 October 1942 Winter training requirements for 319th Division
Date note: Training order of 12 October, not a record of completed exercises or firing at enemy targets.
319th Division is to train exclusively for coastal defence. Formation training is to reach reinforced-battalion level. Particular subjects include coastal defence and counterattack at night, in fog and under heavy air attack; antitank combat; defence of rear settlements; and instructional and combat firing from resistance nests and batteries towards the sea and, where possible, inland.
Engineer training is to stress rapid prepared and improvised mine employment, footbridges, repair of damaged bridges and military bridging using captured equipment. Coastal batteries are to train for close defence and support of the main line of resistance; the Navy directs firing training against sea targets.
