12 January 1943 Corps Order No 1
Secret. Corps Headquarters, 12 January 1943. Headquarters LXXXIV Army Corps, Operations Section. Corps Order No. 1.
1. Command relationships. In amendment of Corps Order No. 9 of 30 December 1942, paragraph 1, Artillery Battalion Römer and the newly formed 4th and 5th batteries of 15-cm heavy field howitzer 13 on self-propelled mountings are subordinated as follows. Tactically: headquarters with 4th and 5th batteries to Artillery Commander 118; 1st and 3rd batteries to the 709th Division; 2nd Battery to the 165th Division. The whole battalion is administratively and economically under the 165th Division, and for training and supply under Artillery Commander 118.
2. An incident requires the reminder that railway embankments and road embankments must not be used as bullet stops during combat firing without prior reconnaissance. During a unit's combat firing a railway pole line was seriously damaged, putting important command communications out of operation for a considerable period. Repair consumes petrol and bronze wire, the latter unobtainable. Commanders must take measures that prevent telephone-line damage from the outset. In any recurrence, those responsible will be reported for court-martial punishment for sabotage and endangering the troops' fighting power. All subordinate establishments are to be instructed.
3. Live firing accompanied by signal lights in darkness has recently caused false alarms and reports to higher headquarters. Neighbouring divisions must therefore be informed of such exercises in good time. The 319th Division will inform the 709th and 165th divisions and vice versa. Corps Headquarters has asked neighbouring corps to order corresponding arrangements for their flank divisions. For Corps Headquarters, Chief of the General Staff.
