Diary Entry
12 April 1942 St Malo convoy diary
Weather: SSE moderate breeze, visibility five nautical miles, coastal haze, slight sea. V 204/11 have reached Brest and are immediately demagnetised, with compensation to follow tomorrow. Commanders returning to St Malo report that Alderney’s entrance lights have still not been raised. Remark: earlier applications, including from the 2nd Security Division, have failed to secure the alteration. V 205 has now lost its propeller because the lights remain in their previous state. I again stress the urgency of raising them and send a corresponding teletype to BSW.
Correction to 11 April, item 5: RO 8 and Rob. Müller 8 were escorted instead of Karel. Corrected tonnage 14,540 GRT. Situation: V 206/12 evening troop convoy RO 45 and Olwe for Jersey, Derfflinger for Guernsey; V 207/13 complete 11 April item 2, then ready St Malo; V 209/10 complete 11 April item 5; V 1510/704 Georgi Cherbourg–Alderney and immediately return with Georgi carrying men on leave; V 209/12/06 ready St Malo; V 210 boiler cleaning St Malo; V 204/11 demagnetisation Brest; V 205 dock Cherbourg. Escorted tonnage 8,100 GRT.
Intentions for 13 April: V 206/12 continue convoy; V 207/13 ready St Malo; V 209/08 replenish, V 209 degaussing-range passage; V 211/04 compensate at Brest and return to St Malo in the afternoon; V 210 boiler cleaning; V 205 dock Cherbourg.
