Diary Entry

11 February 1942 St Malo convoy diary

Convoys proceeded as intended. Cherbourg requested M 4007/M 4008 for the 11/12 February Alderney night convoy. Initially this was not granted: only today’s telephone enquiry established that the division’s requisition had been intended for Wiedra on 10 February. The boats therefore remained at the division’s disposal and the normal Cherbourg–Alderney service could not currently operate. [The later situation list nevertheless records the night convoy.]

Situation: V 208/V 212 at 15:30 from Granville with Maas, RO 8 and two lighters for Jersey. V 205/V 206 at 12:30 from Jersey with Robert Müller, H 23, Nordplein, Kurland, Derfflinger and two barges to St Malo. M 4007/M 4008 at the division’s disposal at Cherbourg, then 11/12 February night convoy to Alderney with two coasters. M 4000/M 4006 replenishment St Malo. M 4005/V 1705 at 07:30 Guernsey–Jersey, returning 10:40 with Comptoir 51, Adolph le Prince and Mazagan. V 213 converter repair and boiler cleaning. Escorted tonnage: 7,764 GRT.

Intention for 12 February: V 208/V 212 about 11:00 from Jersey with Helma, Claus Wilhelm and Diamant to Granville. V 205/V 206 replenish at St Malo, sailing if needed for an escort. M 4007/M 4008 Alderney–Cherbourg night convoy, then ready there; M 4000/M 4006 ready St Malo. M 4005/V 1705 at 10:00 Guernsey–Jersey, returning with Maas and Holland. V 213 repairs and cleaning.
