Diary Entry
10 June 1942 St Malo convoy diary
St Malo: moderate to fresh NE breeze, slightly disturbed sea, visibility ten nautical miles. Convoys and stations completed. 05:10: V 204/211 and convoy arrive. V 204 ordered unready for boiler and bottom cleaning. 05:30: V 206/202 report leaving Caruso after daylight. V 207 is ready again but must proceed to Cherbourg for degaussing at the next opportunity.
13:00: I restore V 204 to readiness because RO 8, occupying the dock, will not leave until 21 June instead of 13 June. Boiler and bottom cleaning are postponed to retain V 204 for convoy work. To save escort boats I inform the division that ferry 108’s commander will go to Lézardrieux as navigating officer for the ferries in convoy 3274 destined for St Malo from point 28. They are then to proceed alone with the accommodation barge.
Situation: V 208/726 at St Malo Roads overnight, then V 208 ready; V 203/726 alone to Granville then collected convoy via Jersey to Guernsey; V 213/703 finish Holland and Ad. le Prince night convoy to St Malo; V 204/211 night Cherbourg–St Malo with RO 21 and Pfalzburg, V 204 then listed unready for cleaning; V 206/202 day Cherbourg–Alderney then Antonius night troop convoy to Guernsey; V 213/209 night troop convoy with Minotaure, Karel, H 2 and Maas to Jersey, continuing Minotaure and Karel to Guernsey; V 207/703 ready St Malo; V 205 eastward. Tonnage 12,600 GRT.
Intentions for 11 June: V 203/726 complete collected convoy, then ready; V 206/202 Guernsey–Alderney–Cherbourg convoy, preventing patrol station because of urgency; V 213/209 complete troop convoy, then ready Guernsey; V 207/703 St Malo Roads overnight; V 208/211 ready St Malo; V 205 expected Antwerp.
