Diary Entry
1 November 1943 October civilian morale and intelligence monthly report
The well-led resistance movement and foreign broadcasts continue to affect morale adversely. French police show this most clearly: less action against labour absentees/boycotts, and suspicion that police themselves pressure civilians through defamation/boycott. French authorities deliberately tolerate more offences, making German enforcement against refusal/evasion of German labour service harder and weakening German prestige. Outwardly the population remains quiet; food conditions broadly unchanged. Essentially the same applies to the English population of the Channel Islands. No increase in leaflet drops observed.
