1 March 1945 Squadron 30 submits the February action report

Source: US Navy MTB Squadron 30, Officer in Tactical Command to Commanding Officer, FC8-30/A12-1/A16-3, 1 March 1945; supplied report pages 1–2, S41–S42.

Summary: L. F. Jones submitted the report of the action by PT 456, PT 457, PT 459 and PT 461 on the night of 27–28 February. The report describes the regular Channel Islands patrol mission: protecting Cherbourg and preventing landings from the islands on the Cherbourg Peninsula. It records one LCM believed sunk and another disappearing, without recovered bodies.

Editorial note: Administrative report date, not a March battle or the missing March monthly war diary. Cross-reference the 27 and 28 February entries and the 17 and 25 April endorsements below. The report’s own doubts over identity qualify its initial description of an enemy force.

Cross-reference: NAV-19450228-CAP-DE-LA-HAGUE. The 1 March report and 17/25 April endorsements document the 28 February engagement; administrative entries are not additional engagements.
