Summary

Channel Islands permanent construction returns

Location Details

Jersey; Guernsey; Alderney; Sark; Channel Islands

Diary Entry

1 July 1943 Channel Islands permanent construction returns

These four returns show permanent construction for the whole 319th Infantry Division sector, Alderney, Guernsey with Sark, and Jersey. Overall percentages as printed, in the order completed / under construction / not begun:

319th Infantry Division: 22% / 23% / 55%.

Alderney: 10% / 9% / 81%.

Guernsey and Sark: 31% / 36% / 33%.

Jersey: 23% / 21% / 56%.

The columns give planned totals, completed works, works under construction and works not yet begun, first as counts and then as percentages. The overall percentages are those printed by the German compilers; they have not been recalculated by adding unlike structures and kilometres of obstacles. Dashes should not automatically be treated as independently verified zeroes.

Editorial note: these are separate Seventh Army returns, with different categories from the Fortress Engineer Staff 19 construction-progress chart already included from T-78 Roll 317 for 1 July 1943. They are complementary evidence, not another copy of that chart.
