If further fuel replenishment becomes impossible, the island commander or the fortress commandants may dispose of the reserved quantities dispersed in their respective areas, reporting through official channels to the Army.

ee Captured fuel

Captured fuel must be carefully examined before use. Fuel Examination Detachment 16 is to be requested through Army headquarters. Larger quantities of fuel must be reported, stating the quantity separately for petrol and diesel and the storage location.

4 Motor transport V

a Equipment of the troops

With vehicles authorised under the relevant equipment establishment tables; with locally assigned vehicles and vehicles for providing mobility, under special orders.

b Maintenance of vehicles and motor equipment

This is of the utmost importance. Commanders and unit leaders must give this matter their closest attention. Losses in enemy air attacks must be kept as low as possible by placing vehicles under cover and widely dispersed, and by digging them in with protection against splinters. Vehicles lost will not be replaced for the time being.

c Recovery and evacuation

aa Corps headquarters and divisions are to recover disabled and damaged vehicles and send them for repair. Stripping and looting vehicles is forbidden and must be prevented. Violations are to be dealt with severely.

Vehicles which cannot be taken to a motor-vehicle repair park or one of its outstations by the troops’ own resources are to be collected by corps headquarters and divisions and reported to Army headquarters by number, type and location. Corps headquarters and divisions will arrange guards for the collected vehicles.

bb The supply strongpoints of Commander Army Supply Troops 575 are also to serve as vehicle collecting points for Army supply troops and for vehicles which cannot be handed over to the collecting points of corps headquarters and divisions. These vehicles are to be reported as under aa.

cc Vehicles reported will be towed by Army towing detachments where the troops cannot do so themselves.
